Job Description

The Clinch Valley Land Protection Program Manager coordinates and implements a comprehensive program to protect priority natural areas, working forest landscapes, wildlife corridors, and habitat for rare plants, animals and natural communities in the Clinch Valley Program and Eastern Divide areas of southwestern Virginia.  The Manager implements and achieves the Conservancy’s priorities by overseeing and representing the Conservancy in relationships and negotiations with government agencies such as the Virginia Division of Natural Heritage, Virginia Division of State Parks, Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources, the Unites States Forest Service, and the Virginia Outdoors Foundation, and with local partners. They secure public and private funds for land protection and manage grants. They research land ownership information for tracts identified as potential acquisition projects and conduct negotiations with landowners to complete conservation transactions.   The Manager works with the Clinch Valley Program Director, conservation planning, and science staff to prioritize properties for protection.  They prepare internal project packages as appropriate.  They respond to protection inquiries and screen potential protection projects.  The Manager may manage staff and volunteers working toward accomplishment of the Program’s protection goals.
