Pacific Environment is campaigning to end fossil fuel use, including to get ships off fossil fuels. Our strategies include creating strong regulatory frameworks to achieve zero-emission shipping on a timeline commensurate with the climate emergency, pressuring corporate customers to demand zero-emission ships, and influencing ports on the Pacific West Coast and beyond to end fossil fuel build out and ready themselves for zero-emission shipping instead.

Position
The Climate and Clean Energy Analyst will provide critical analytical support for Pacific Environment’s campaigns on climate, zero-emission shipping, and beyond. They will conduct research and analysis and produce reports that will strengthen Pacific Environment’s advocacy efforts with policymakers, community partners, labor partners, environmental justice partners, industry stakeholders and other campaign targets to ensure a broad base of support for campaign goals.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in:

-Quantitative and qualitative data analysis
-Data tool creation and maintenance
-Data visualization and presentation
-Technical research and evaluation of industry best practices in energy markets and carbon budgeting/accounting

They will also have an urgency to defeat the champions of fossil fuel use, a passion for protecting communities and wildlife, and a commitment to environmental justice and equity.

The Climate and Clean Energy Analyst will report to Pacific Environment’s Climate Campaign Manager, Ports.

Location and Travel
Pacific Environment staff currently work from home. Greater San Francisco Bay Area local applicants and California residents are preferred, followed by candidates located in other states on the U.S. West Coast, plus Anchorage, Alaska. However, we will consider highly qualified candidates residing elsewhere in the U.S. This position requires working West Coast Time Zone hours, and potentially some evenings or weekends. Some travel to the Bay Area may be required if the successful candidate is based outside the greater San Francisco Bay Area. The position may also involve some other travel.

Responsibilities
-Provide analytical assistance, including quantitative and qualitative data analysis, in support of Pacific Environment’s campaign efforts.
Support the development of a broad array of new policies, initiatives and communication strategies to reach zero-emission shipping and beyond.
-Analyze and dissect data as well as complex policy issues from a variety of sources including scientific studies, reports and models being used to shape California, U.S., and international policies on transportation decarbonization, with a focus on zero-emission shipping, zero-emission ports and freight operations and aviation decarbonization.
-Produce technical analyses and advocacy products based on these analyses, including data visualization and presentations.
-Present Pacific Environment technical analyses to policymakers, the press and in key policy forums.
-Manage other tasks as assigned.

Key Qualifications
-3-7 years of a combination of relevant academic and/or professional experience in climate and clean energy data analysis.
-Knowledge of energy and greenhouse gas emissions management and accounting and advanced knowledge of Excel and python/other modelling tools.
-Strong demonstrated quantitative ability; experience with statistics, economic modeling, and financial analysis; academic courses or work experience related to energy management, performance tracking and analysis, environmental/public health issues and/or public policy.
-Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; demonstrated experience of producing high-quality data analysis and reports; knowledge of data management, visualization, and dashboarding systems.
-Experience in energy or pollution analysis is a plus.
-Commitment to supporting communities’ voice in policy and infrastructure development decisions that could impact air quality pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.

Compensation and Benefits
Pacific Environment provides compensation commensurate with experience and equitable with others on our team, plus a full benefits package for staff positions. The salary range for this position is $75,000-$95,000, which is carefully considered to account for equity. The employee will enjoy a flexible working environment with a dedicated, diverse group of colleagues.

Physical Requirements
The Climate and Clean Energy Analyst work involves remaining in a stationary position and looking at a computer for long stretches of time, communicating with co-workers electronically, and occasional travel (including overnight travel), in-person meetings, or events.
