Position:              Circular Materials Program Manager/Director (Based on Experience)

Reports to:         Senior Vice President, Environmental Policy and Legal Affairs

Position Overview: We are currently seeking a Circular Materials Program Manager/Director (Based on Experience)  to lead and manage industry initiatives to achieve circular material outcomes across RBA member value chains. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding and interest in the processes and principles involved in circular materials and waste minimization, including zero waste programs, recycling standards, and/or secondary material assurance tools. The position also offers the opportunity to connect these topics to broader discussions regarding standardized ESG practices and environmental due diligence. Attention to detail and delivering exceptional work products is vital. This role will interact with RBA Member Companies and internal & external stakeholders as part of the RBA’s Responsible Environment Initiative.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the RBA Responsible Environment Initiative vision by working with RBA colleagues and members to develop and implement a Circular Materials strategy that provides a roadmap for engagement and strategic positioning on current and emerging circular material practices and issues.
  • Strategically connect circular material challenges and emerging solutions with other RBA programs including the Responsible Minerals Initiative, and environmental topics, including water stewardship and decarbonization, as well as social topics, such as responsible minerals sourcing.
  • Research emerging circular material issues across RBA member value chains, convey findings and develop actionable best practices and/or industry circular material capacity building tools and standards.
  • Organize information into professional-grade materials, including reports, trainings, and presentations.
  • Engage with external stakeholders and internal partners to internalize feedback and demonstrate RBA members’ commitment to circular material priorities.
  • Provide member companies with expert insight and resources to help them engage their supply chains towards improving circular material flows and/or zero waste solutions.
  • 10% Travel.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills, Experience and Abilities: 

  • A master’s degree in a related field such as environmental management, corporate sustainability, or environmental science OR a bachelor’s degree with an additional 3-5 years (Manager Level) / 5+ years (Director Level) of working directly on circular material, recycling, and/or solid waste management issues.
  • At least 3-5 years (Manager Level) / 5+ years (Director Level) of experience working with circular material, zero waste, and/or recycling assurance issues with a corporation or non-profit. High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to learn additional computer programs or web-based applications (Webex, ShareFile, etc.)
  • Transformation & leadership mindset
  • Knowledge & career interest in sustainability, corporate social responsibility, and circular economy issues desired.
  • Professional proficiency in English

Desired Skills, Experience and Abilities:

  • Experience working for a trade association or company on circular material, waste or recycling issues
  • In depth knowledge of circular material topics, standards, and initiatives and/or experience implementing circular material methods and/or practices
  • Understanding of circular material and recycling standards and best practices
  • Manufacturing and supply chain experience a plus
  • Exposure to corporate sustainability program strategy development and implementation especially within the manufacturing processes and supply chains – ideally, within the electronics industry
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including an ability to speak with companies and stakeholders at an expert level on complex environmental topics
  • Knowledge of the circular material/zero waste/recycling stakeholder community with the ability to distill stakeholder feedback into functional requirements
  • Ability to develop and present professional grade communications materials for outreach and training purposes
  • Strong project management experience, including the ability to manage multiple complex projects with varying priority levels and deadlines across project owners.
  • Customer service, and the ability to meet the high expectations of the professionals RBA represents within its corporate membership

  • This is an in-office position Monday – Thursday.
  • The position is located at RBA’s Headquarter office in Alexandria, Virginia.
  • Salary commensurate with experience (Exempt Position)
  • The RBA’s headquarters is located in Alexandria, Virginia, just outside of Washington, D.C.
  • Metro/Bus accessible – 1 block from King Street Metro
