Full-Time Chief Eco-Sustainability Officer

LAUSD’s ambitious goals seek to promote significant increases in environmental sustainability throughout the District and our community. The role of Chief Eco-Sustainability Officer was created to head LAUSD’s efforts in minimizing the Districts’ carbon and water footprint.
About the Role:
The Chief Eco-Sustainability Officer will be an innovative and resourceful leader who will coordinate and oversee the District’s eco-sustainability program. In this role he or she will recommend and implement eco-sustainability initiatives and policies in alignment with best eco-practices, to move the District toward its long term sustainability goals.
Job Duties:
- Collaborate with various District departments in devising the District’s sustainability plan and related programs
- Explore and pursue opportunities to partner with other entities, both public and private, in the implementation of eco-sustainability initiatives
- Inspire and motivate District leaders, partners, colleagues, and the community to incorporate sustainability strategies and implement environmental initiatives
- Publish reports and publicize accomplishments to promote achievements and successes
- Work with local, State, and Federal legislative leaders to develop policy that supports clean energy efforts
- Remain up to date on Federal, State, and local legislation related to sustainability practices and programs

Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate for this position will demonstrate competency to lead sustainability initiatives at the District and deliver innovative solutions. He or she will have extensive knowledge of the concepts and strategies needed to pursue sustainability in a non-profit, government or industry setting by developing policies and programs that address the challenges posed by climate change.
The successful candidate will stay abreast of new legislation and laws surrounding eco sustainability to minimize the District’s carbon and water footprint, conserve resources, lower operating costs, prioritize sustainable best practices, and create a healthier environment for the future.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced sustainability leader who is extremely creative, diplomatic, organized, precise, business savvy, and has a successful track record developing and executing on strategic plan to produce deliverables on-time and on-budget.
Additionally, he or she will be comfortable coordinating across a large and diverse organization to develop environmentally sustainable goals and policies for the District and oversee implementation of a cost-effective and strategic delivery plans to meet business objectives.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: A BA/BS from a recognized college or university preferably with a major in a related field.
Experience: : Five years of experience managing and implementing environmental programs in two of the following areas: climate change, clean air, energy, environmental education, water conservation, urban forest, green building, public outreach, recycling or toxics reduction.

Salary: $153,700.00 – $190,500.00 per year
