Delaware Nature Society (DelNature), a state affiliate for the National Wildlife Federation, has been a leading environmental nonprofit organization in the region, working to protect the environment and connect people to nature for more than half a century. DelNature’s mission is to connect people with the natural world to improve the environment through education, conservation, and advocacy. By providing the tools for communities to take action and promote the health of the environment through land preservation, wildlife protection, and watershed stewardship, DelNature envisions a healthy and sustainable environment for all.

 Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Advancement is a Senior Leadership Team member responsible for leading and managing fundraising, events, and marketing on behalf of the organization. As the lead fundraiser, the Director of Advancement provides strategy and direct procurement of gifts, with an emphasis on major gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, state/government agency grants, and bequests. From the Annual Fund and Membership campaigns – to event sponsorship, planned giving, and major gifts – the Director of Advancement leads the goal setting and fulfillment with support of the Development and Marketing Team, Executive Director, and other leadership team members.

Qualified candidates will possess a minimum of 10 years of advancement and direct fundraising experience with demonstrated success in securing and soliciting individual gifts, grants, and sponsorships. Must have proven success designing and implementing strategic and innovative plans to grow awareness, increase fundraising, and exceed goals. The ideal candidate will be a team player with exceptional communication skills to express orally and in writing compelling messaging about DelNature and its programs. The successful candidate will have a commitment to DelNature’s mission and a genuine passion for the environment with a desire to gain a working understanding of the organization’s history, culture, and philanthropic networks. Bachelor’s degree required. Must be willing and able to work some nights, weekends, and travel when necessary.
