Job Description

HENDERSON LLC, a progressive aquatic science and habitat restoration leader in the Pacific Northwest, seeks a Water Resources/River Restoration Engineer for the Lake Oswego, Oregon office.  Successful candidate will possess cross-over professional skills and interests that integrate into the team’s natural systems design and field implementation efforts.  This is an exempt, full-time position reporting to the President. Salary is commensurate with candidate’s contribution to the business.  Benefits include health insurance, 401K and paid leave.  HENDERSON is an EEO/AA employer.

Required Skills

  • Engineering: employ standard engineering practices and principles along with professional judgement to assess and analyze systems and to create innovative, functional designs to address project needs.
  • AutoCAD/GIS: produce designs in AutoCAD/GIS in a manner that facilitates analysis of multiple approaches and output of final plan documentation.
  • Team work: contribute to multidisciplinary design projects and shared outcomes.
  • Communication: describe design concepts, requirements and outcomes clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Project Management: execute and deliver plans in a timely manner with attention to detail.
  • Consultation: listen to the client needs, respect concerns and deliver results in a positive, respectful and proactive manner.

Required Education/Licensing

Minimum B.S. degree in civil or environmental engineering from an ABET-credited university required, M.S. degree preferred. Registered as a civil engineer in Oregon and/or Washington.

Experience Required

Minimum of five years in water resources/river restoration assessment, aquatic and riparian ecology, natural systems engineering and design. Experience in tidally-influenced/estuarine systems preferable.

Primary Responsibilities

Complete detailed natural-system hydrologic and hydraulic engineering analysis, modeling, and design. Areas of professional focus include estuarine or tidally-influenced systems, fluvial geomorphology, natural-channel stream design, bio-engineering embankment-stabilization, fish passage system design, culvert and closed conduit modeling, and flood frequency modeling and analyses.  Provide principal authorship of stream restoration permits for SLOPES, in-stream habitat structure/engineered large wood design, in-stream grade control structures, stream restoration construction management/inspection, sediment transport, and bio-treatment swale system design.  Apply land surveying principles and practices.
