Shoreline Community College is a comprehensive community college dedicated to inclusive excellence in teaching and learning, student success, and community engagement. The Facilities Department at Shoreline Community College is charged with developing and maintaining the campus’s 26 buildings and 83 acres.  The department’s primary functions include grounds maintenance, custodial services, operations and maintenance, and capital projects.   The Sustainability Coordinator will provide expertise and direction in the implementation of sustainable practices in plant operations and procurement.  This position will engage with campus constituencies and the public through education, events, and partnerships.  In addition, this position will provide direction and project management for sustainability projects and goals

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research, provide recommendations, and direct implementation for procedural guidelines regarding sustainable practices in plant operations, including landscape management and biodiversity, waste minimization, and water usage
  • Research/recommend criteria and procedural guidelines for sustainable procurement, including implementation of existing policies
  • Provide data collection, tracking, and reporting of climate metrics through STAR METRICS and other external reporting tools
  • Serve as a member of the Sustainable Commuter Options Fee Committee
  • Serve as a member to the Ecological Integrity Steering Committee and provide support towards implementation of the College’s Strategic Plan, including metrics
  • Project management and collaboration on jointly-approved sustainability projects, including those that are initiated by students
  • Support faculty who are incorporating sustainability into courses and  learning outcomes
  • Maintain a sustainability website with information for internal and external stakeholders
  • Attend regional sustainability conferences to further implementation of the 3 E’s (Ecological Integrity, Social Equity, and Economic Viability) within the College’s Strategic Plan
  • Lead planning and direct the work of others for projects such as Earth Week programming, Tree Campus USA, and Solar Fest
  • Provide expertise in the development of orientation modules for students and employees regarding sustainability practices
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

·Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related field

·Two (2) years related experience, including project management, development and reporting of sustainability metrics, and event planning
