Join Arapahoe County’s Open Spaces Department and help preserve natural areas, enhance neighborhood and regional parks and build and maintain trails for the citizens of Arapahoe County.

We are seeking an experienced Open Spaces Maintenance Technician II to maintain and repair Arapahoe County’s parks, turf, trails, facilities and assist with event set up and tear down for events held at Arapahoe County’s Fairgrounds and 17-Mile House.

Our anticipated hiring range is $1,294.79 to $1,526.26 bi-weekly (approximately $16.18 to $18.74 per hour).

Performs maintenance, repair and landscaping duties on County parks, open space, trails, sports fields, fairgrounds and other related facilities.

Assists in the restoration of native grassland and riparian areas, including native grass seeding operations, the planting and establishment of trees, shrubs, or herbaceous plants, and the management of noxious weeds on open space properties and trail corridors.

Performs a variety of duties in the maintenance and stewardship of landscaped areas and open space. Consisting of shrubs, trees, native plants, and grass; water, mow, weed, trim, renovate, and fertilize these areas; clear debris and snow from walks, fields, trails, shelters and other facilities.

Install, repair, and inspect park amenities, fences and other related equipment and facilities.

Maintain landscaped areas; oversee and participate in applying fertilizers, pesticides as needed; inspect and repair irrigation systems.

Operate and maintain landscaping and maintenance equipment including County vehicles, turf mowers, blowers, weed eaters, sprayers, plows and power tools.

Inspect, clean, drain and repair irrigation systems; assist in irrigation system installation.

Maintain driveways, trailheads, parking lots, and trails.

Inspect parks for damage, vandalism, broken equipment or hazardous conditions record and report findings to supervisor.

Pick up trash and remove litter from all County parks, open spaces and trails.

Perform routine maintenance on all park and trailhead restrooms and drinking fountains.

Understand and adhere to safe work practices and procedures.

Assist with event management at the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds and the 17 Mile House Farm Park.

Plowing and removal of snow within parks, trailheads, parking lots, streets, trails and sidewalks.

Assisting with volunteer groups and special event management.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION:

High school graduation or GED equivalent.

EXPERIENCE:

Two or more years of park, open space, trail or landscape maintenance experience.

Irrigation and turf maintenance experience preferred

Natural resource management experienced preferred

(An equivalent combination of education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job may be sufficient).

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid first aid/CPR certificate. Possession of valid Colorado Class R Driver’s License.  Motor Vehicle Report is required at time of interview.

Maintenance of acceptable driving record is necessary.

Possession of or the ability to obtain a Colorado Class A Commercial Driver’s License within one year of employment.

Must pass pre-employment motor vehicle, physical, background check and drug screen.

Possession of or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment, Colorado
Commercial Pesticide Applicators License in the Rangeland, Right of Way, and/or Turf Categories.
