Job Description

Title: Net Zero Energy Manager

Status: Exempt

Reports to: Director, Net Zero Energy

Hours:  Full time

Location: Seattle, WA, or California (San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento,
or Los Angeles area)

BACKGROUND & SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

The International Living Future Institute (ILFI) is a highly creative, high-impact organization whose mission is to lead and support the transformation toward communities that are socially just, culturally rich and ecologically restorative. We are redefining the world of sustainable building through our Living Building Challenge, the built environment’s most rigorous and ambitious performance philosophy and standard. The ILFI is seeking a passionate, highly committed Net Zero Energy Manager to join the Net Zero Energy (NZE) program team to help accelerate the transition to a fossil fuel free future.

Expansion and growth of the NZE program is a key ILFI organizational priority. The centerpiece of the NZE program is the ILFI Net Zero Energy Building certification program. In addition, the ILFI provides a comprehensive program to accelerate the number and scale of NZE buildings, including project team coaching, technical consulting, creation of case studies, conferences, in-person and web-based education, and publications. More recently, the Institute has begun catalyzing community scale zero carbon performance through the Living Community Challenge, leading energy visioning work for the Cities of San Francisco, a core district in the City of Seattle, and the District of Columbia. The ILFI also recently launched Reveal, an energy efficiency transparency label.

The Net Zero Energy Manager reports to the Net Zero Energy Director, who is responsible for strategy, key relationships, and high-level technical, educational, and speaking roles and activities. The Net Zero Energy Director and Manager will coordinate closely, but the Manager must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and will be responsible for day-to-day project management and organization, leading technical, management, and business development activities, and supporting the Director with critical partners and tasks. The NZE team is responsible for growing the use and market impact of the NZE program throughout the US and internationally.

It is critical that this person be an entrepreneurial self-starter, with a wide range of technical, management, and people skills, an ability to take advantage of new opportunities while staying targeted on achieving core program goals, and getting the job done. The ability to work independently on tasks at various scales and manage multiple schedules with minimal supervision is critical. The NZE Manager must also have a passion for the ILFI mission, and ability to build the market presence of NZE program.

The position will be located at the ILFI’s Seattle, WA office or remotely in California (San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento, or Los Angeles area). If the person is located in California, they will periodically travel to the Pacific Northwest to work from the Seattle office for short periods. The position will require occasional travel to other locations. Compensation is commensurate with experience and is supplemented by the Institute’s generous benefits package, which includes health and dental insurance (premiums fully paid by the Institute), three weeks of paid annual leave, 12 days annual sick leave, and retirement plan with employer matching.
