Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), the nation’s 10^th largest school district, located in suburban area just outside the nation’s capital, is seeking a dynamic individual to serve as the Division’s Groundskeeper within the Department of Facilities and Transportation Services. This individual will perform skilled journey-level grounds construction and maintenance work; operates a variety of vehicles and truck-mounted attached, towed, and light motorized equipment.

The ideal candidate will possess any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by completion of an acceptable apprentice-level training program, plus two years of progressively more responsible experience in grounds maintenance, one year of shall have been at the apprentice II or equivalent level. Can demonstrate knowledge of the methods and skills in the use of equipment, materials, and tools appropriate for grounds maintenance on a variety of surfaces and terrains; ability to perform mechanical minor repairs on heavy tools and equipment; knowledge of common hazards and necessary safety precautions; knowledge of local, state, and national codes; ability to read and interpret instructions, diagrams, sketches, blueprints, and manufacturers’ manuals; capability to estimate time and material needs and to perform routine tasks and arithmetic computations; knowledge of basic computer skills preferred; and strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks including lifting, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions out of doors and in adverse climatic conditions. Valid driver’s license with a good driving record and (if required) commercial driver’s license (CDL-A). May be required to work an evening and/or night shift on a regular or rotating basis, accept call-back overtime or regular overtime, and/or agree to assume an emergency call-out list status.
