Full-Time Facilities Director

Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center – Posted by Katie Ryan Oregon, United States

Job Description

Position: Facilities Director

Location: Opal Creek Wilderness Area, Jawbone Flats, Oregon

Work year: Year Round, Full Time.  March 1, 2017 start date

Responsible to: Executive Director

Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center is seeking a Facilities Director.  This position is responsible for maintaining and improving the facilities at our Jawbone Flats campus. This is a residential, full time, year round position.  The Facilities Director must be able to winter over, probably being snowed in without vehicle access for a period of 3-4 months.

Opal Creek is a magnificent 35,000-acre ancient forest on the western slopes of the Cascade Range in Oregon. This spectacular area achieved federal protection from logging after a very long and nationwide struggle. In this setting the Facilities Director is the lead staff member for all ongoing maintenance and execution of larger capital projects.  Tasks include: firewood gathering/stacking; general electrical and plumbing maintenance on our 1929 mining town, garbage, recycling, and supply runs to town, basic budgeting, some administrative work, and engaging the public.

We have a small staff and everyone is required to help in all aspects of running a remote residential facility with a diversity of programs.  We run our programs from the old mining town of Jawbone Flats, an off grid community three miles inside of the Opal Creek wilderness area. This is a residential position, and staff will live at Jawbone Flats in housing provided by the organization.

Compensation: $25,000 annually plus room, partial board, and utilities.

Minimum qualifications: High School diploma, experience in trades or facility maintenance, some staff management experience, and experience working with alternative energy systems. The selected candidate will have the necessary personal qualities required in similar small non profit organizations: the ability to succeed in a friendly, supportive, and demanding environment. See www.opalcreek.org/jobs for a full position description.
