Full-Time Director of Corporate Relations

Job Description

The Director of Corporate Relations at ACORE works out of the organization’s offices in Washington, D.C. with the President & CEO and senior executive team to develop and execute an effective membership program, which involves interacting with leading renewable energy companies and other organizations to garner their participation and financial support as ACORE’s members. The Director provides leadership, direction and oversight for the Membership Department, working closely with the senior management team and in collaboration with the Board Membership Committee.  The Director of Corporate Relations works on day-to-day membership services, including membership revenue acquisition through recruitment of new members and renewal of existing members, and maintains key relationships with ACORE members and corporate partners.  The Director is also responsible for overseeing membership department staff and overseeing the membership CRM database via Salesforce.  A thorough understanding of the renewable energy sector and ACORE’s vision, policies, culture and programs is essential.

Key job duties

  • Develop, refine, and implement a comprehensive membership recruitment plan with aggressive growth goals, including crafting tailored pitches, developing and editing marketing materials and conducting email and phone campaigns
  • Establish, manage and supervise proper workflow for incoming requests for information and service needs from members and non-members, as well as other functions related to membership in collaboration with the Policy, Programs, and Communications teams
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Leadership Programs to promote sponsorship sales, and support and assist in sponsorship business development with current and potential members
  • Develop goals and milestones in accordance with ACORE’s strategic plan and department budget, and execute plans for their achievement
  • Conduct day-to-day pitch calls and other membership sales efforts and strategies
  • Manage and maintain day-to-day member relations and participation in ACORE programs
  • Direct the membership renewal process and collections
  • Oversee day-to-day maintenance of membership data in CRM program (knowledge of Salesforce preferred)
  • Work with the Communications team to ensure that all systems (web site, CRM, survey & association management software, etc.) are supporting membership sales growth and overall membership recruitment
  • Serve as member of ACORE’s senior management team
  • Brainstorm and strategize with the Director of Events & Marketing and the Vice President of Communications to create improved marketing materials
  • Work with Program and Policy teams to ensure members are properly engaged and their needs met through programs, member events, and other member-oriented deliverables
  • Work with the CEO and senior management team to identify membership priority targets and develop and implement plans for their recruitment
  • Working with the CEO and Executive Administrator, serve as liaison with the Board Membership Committee, working with them to identify and recruit membership targets and, as necessary, refine membership policies
  • Manage supporting organization agreements, membership swaps, and MOU’s with partner organizations in conjunction with the Communications and Events & Marketing teams
  • Develop, monitor and control the department’s operational plan and budget
  • Supervise membership department’s staff and support their professional development
  • Participate in industry events to pursue membership prospects and maintain key relationships

Required skills and knowledge

  • Minimum 7 years work experience including demonstrated progressively responsible experience for membership recruitment or corporate/client relations programs
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills and a focused sales mentality
  • Proven sales, communications, customer service, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help achieve business goals
  • A thorough familiarity with the renewable energy sector
  • Ability to promptly adopt ACORE’s vision, policies, culture, and programs
  • Knowledge, experience, and ability to travel to industry conferences and meet with potential members as necessary
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively and collegially with members, partners, and colleagues

Educational requirements     

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as public policy, political science, economics, finance, law, science or technical field
  • Master’s degree a plus, but not required
