Job Description

Overview The Alaska Center is seeking an enthusiastic and talented individual to serve as our Development Coordinator. The Development Coordinator will design and implement strategies that engage, cultivate, and grow the financial support of individual donors around the state, leveraging investments to advance our vision and build a more powerful, diverse Alaska conservation movement.

We envision a thriving and sustainable Alaska for generations to come, and we achieve this vision through the work of two organizations. The Alaska Center engages, empowers, and elects Alaskans to stand up for clean air and water, healthy communities, and a strong democracy. The Alaska Center houses all of our advocacy and electoral campaigns. A sister 501c(3) organization, The Alaska Center Education Fund, educates and empowers Alaskans of all ages to support clean air and water, healthy communities, and become engaged citizens. The Alaska Center Education fund houses our children’s outdoor education program, Trailside Discovery Camp.

Status: Full Time, Exempt Location: Anchorage

Core Responsibilities: Duties and Responsibilities including but not limited to: The purpose of this position is to inspire, grow, and deepen our base of supporters throughout Alaska. The right candidate will believe that individual investments in our mission will lead to positive social change; be able to inspire others to contribute resources we need to successfully advocate on critical issues; possess skills and knowledge in managing fundraising programs; and have the temperament and drive for establishing and strengthening relationships. The ideal candidate will be someone who enjoys connecting with our members, and who also has the ability to handle the back-end administration required for this position.

The Development Coordinator will be responsible for:

● Developing an annual individual giving plan with evaluation metrics;

● Supporting board and staff in major donor prospecting, solicitation, and stewardship;

● Coordinating and executing several fundraising events each year;

● Managing our donor database and donor tracking and reporting systems;

● Providing written content for member and funder communications;

● Integrating fundraising across the organizations and supporting all staff fundraising; ● Coordinating annual membership engagement (online, phone, direct mail, events);

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

● Innovation, ability to take risks, constant curiosity and desire to learn; ● Interest in the work of The Alaska Center and The Alaska Center Education Fund;

● Interest in climate change and clean energy, wild salmon habitat protection, democracy issues;

● Desire to engage Alaskans in supporting our youth education, advocacy, and elections objectives;

● Willingness to ask people to contribute to our cause, and ability to inspire them in doing so!

● Minimum one year of experience in fundraising, marketing, or grassroots organizing;

● Excellent organization and planning skills;

● Strong persuasive writing skills;

● Proven ability to interact with donors, volunteers and staff in a thoughtful, professional, and enthusiastic manner;

 A positive, pro-active approach to projects;

 Ability problem-solve;

● Work independently and as a productive member of a team;

● Experience and interest in coordinating special events;

● Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, respond quickly to emerging opportunities, and be flexible to adapt to changing circumstances of dynamic organizations;

● Tech savvy with high proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Google suite of products, and social media;

● Familiarity with Alaska’s diverse communities, cultures, and political dynamics a plus;

● Familiarity and interest in donor or constituent databases and bulk email platforms.

This is a full-time position that must be based in Alaska. Salary is dependent on experience with a generous and competitive benefit package. This position will travel within Alaska as necessary to achieve organizational and individual work plan goals with some travel to the Lower 48 for trainings and relevant conferences.
