US SIF seeks a Deputy Director to join our team.

US SIF: The Forum for Sustainable and Responsible Investment is the leading voice advancing sustainable, responsible and impact investing across all asset classes. Our mission is to rapidly shift investment practices towards sustainability, focusing on long-term investment and the generation of positive social and environmental impacts.

• Increase Demand: Expand sustainable, responsible and impact investing across all asset classes.
• Define and Enhance the Rigor of the Field: Identify and disseminate information about best practices within the field and provide tools for practitioners to undertake a rigorous and comprehensive approach to SRI investing.
• Remove Barriers: Influence audiences outside of the financial industry (i.e. the media, policymakers and regulators) to create a supportive environment for SRI investing. DEPUTY DIRECTOR POSITION:
This is an opportunity for a highly experienced professional to play a key senior role for the leading organization in the US advancing sustainable, responsible and impact investing. US SIF is a mission driven organization that has been at the vanguard of moving the investment industry towards sustainability.
Reporting to the CEO, the Deputy Director (DD) will participate on the senior management team and will lead the implementation of our Strategic Plan and corresponding Annual Operating Plan, including ongoing oversight and reporting against these plans. She or he will also play a lead role in the development of future strategic plans. The DD will play a key role in the day to day management of the organization, and will further enhance systems for team development, including

staff goal setting, performance reviews and training. She or he will also help manage the board of directors, including preparation for board meetings. She or he will also play a key role in member recruitment efforts. The DD will supervise the Events and Marketing Manager, coordinate the activities of other staff working on the conference and will also supervise the Operations/Membership team. This full-time position is based in Washington, DC and offers many opportunities for creativity and professional growth.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Organizational Leadership and Strategic Planning
 Provide programmatic leadership and input for the implementation of our strategic plan with the CEO and staff by maintaining forward movement on organizational objectives and goals and enhancing our system for tracking and reporting on progress of strategic plan.
 Lead development of the annual operating plan and budget.
 Identify external opportunities that will help advance US SIF’s strategic goals.
 Assist CEO with board management and preparation for board meetings; present to the board at meetings as needed and manage relevant committees.
 Work closely with CEO to ensure quick responses to issues as they arise.
 Represent US SIF to external audiences.
Team Development
 Oversee and direct the work of the Operations/Membership team (currently one manager and one assistant), which handles staff on-boarding and off- boarding, general financial management including the audit and 990s, human resources and organizational operations, the renewal process for members as well as onboarding of new members and development of membership materials.
 Act as “coordinator” for the various staff working on the agenda of the US SIF conference as well as Member Day, and directly supervise the Events and Marketing Manager.
 Manage development of yearly staff goal setting and staff review process.
 Ensure staff members receive timely and appropriate training and development.
 Lead searches for new staff.
Operations
 Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
 Drive operational excellence across the organization, refining and creating systems and processes.
 Work with consultants to ensure maintenance of up to date personnel policies and procedures.
Membership Management
 Play a lead role in recruitment of members, including strategy for targeting key sectors.
 Create a more robust member outreach and retention program; staff Membership Committee.
 Provide input to Events and Marketing Manager about member receptions and programs.
 Work with Operations and Membership Manager on renewals, onboarding of new members and the creation of high quality materials.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
 At least 15 years of experience, at least 5 of which are in a senior management role;
 Entrepreneurial and flexible approach to organizational management and development.
 Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and work effectively with senior management, staff and board members.
 Experience in and passion for sustainable and impact investment that will allow you to be credible with internal and external audiences.
 Excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills.
 Able to prioritize and communicate key objectives and tactics necessary to achieve organizational goals.
 Detail oriented with a demonstrated ability to organized and track multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
 Knowledge of budgeting and fiscal management.
 Exceptional written and oral communication skills; enjoys public-speaking.
 Commitment to US SIF’s mission, sense of humor, curiosity, integrity, collegial and positive attitude, and ability to remain calm under pressure.
 Bachelor’s degree.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
 Work experience with non-profit membership organization and membership recruitment.
 Experience with event or conference planning.
